Belt or strap buckle manufacture involves injection molding of frame and clip parts either as an integral unit or separately for subsequent assembly

The buckle comprises a frame part(1) and a clip part(2) both of which are injection molded. In a first method the frame part(1) and clip part(2) are produced as a single injection molding with the clip part perpendicular to the normal position in use. The two parts are held together by a breakable material rib which breaks when the clip part is swiveled about an axis(3) for the first time. Projections on the clip part axis, rotate in bores through the frame sidewalls. A free belt end is placed in the molding tool before injection and plastic injected around it. In a second method the two parts are produced as separate moldings and a free end of the belt is enclosed in plastic during injection of the frame part. The two parts are then joined together so that they cannot be parted. Cylindrical projections on the clip part expand the frame during assembly of both parts and fit into bores through the side walls. Assembly is aided by funnel shaped grooves on both inner faces of the frame part sidewalls which guide the cylindrical projections into each bore. An independent claim is included for a buckle for a belt or strap which comprises a frame part(1) and a clip part(2) which on first use rotates about an axis(3) from an initial position in which it was molded with the frame part into a second position in which a belt end can be gripped.
