An air conditioner is provided to drive main and auxiliary heat exchangers selectively according to user's selection, thereby realizing high speed cooling mode. An air conditioner includes a main heat exchanger(22) for the heat exchange of room air, and an auxiliary heat exchanger(23) mounted at a side of the main heat exchanger. A main refrigerant pipe(30) is mounted to the main heat exchanger for supplying refrigerant to the main heat exchanger. An auxiliary refrigerant pipe(40) is branched from the main refrigerant pipe and connected to the auxiliary heat exchanger. A bypass valve(50) is mounted to the auxiliary refrigerant pipe for controlling the refrigerant introduced into the auxiliary heat exchanger. The bypass valve is opened for the refrigerant to be introduced into the auxiliary heat exchanger in the case of high speed cooling mode.
