<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical recording medium applicable to a write-once DVD system using a semiconductor laser oscillating in short wavelengths more effectively than a conventional optical recording medium, and a medium structure especially suitable to high-speed recording. <P>SOLUTION: The optical recording medium has at least a recording layer, an intermediate layer, and a reflective layer stacked sequentially on a base plate. This optical recording medium has a recording layer containing mainly an organic dye and an intermediate layer containing mainly an inorganic material. The intermediate layer is 1-10 nm thick.
