Said component includes a component member which is made at least in part of a titanium-aluminum alloy composed of 40 to 60 atomic percent titanium and 5 to 50 atomic percent aluminum; at least part of the surface of the component has a protective coating that is created using plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO).
