A method of gaming via a spinning reel game in a gaming machine having a display, a credit input mechanism configured to receive a physical item associated with a monetary value for establishing a credit balance, the credit balance being increasable and decreasable based at least on wagering activity, a game controller, and one or more reels in the spinning reel game, the method comprising:
displaying on the display said one or more reels as three dimensional and as provided with game symbols along and around said one or more reels; establishing a credit balance via said credit input mechanism receiving the physical item; in accord with having established the credit balance via the credit input mechanism receiving the physical item, displaying on the display spinning of said one or more reels and thereby sequentially displaying at least some of said game symbols displayed as provided along said one or more reels; displaying on the display rotating of said one or more reels and thereby sequentially displaying at least some of said game symbols displayed as provided around said one or more reels; stopping via the game controller said spinning and said rotating of each of said one or more reels at a respective stop position; determining via the game controller a game outcome based on at least some of said game symbols displayed when each of said one or more reels is in its respective stop position; displaying on the display some or all of said one or more reels as at least partially transparent; displaying on the display each of said one or more reels as filling or filled with a fluid or with one or more objects to respective fill levels; and determining via the game controller a prize or game outcome from one or more of said respective fill levels.
