<p>An automatic backlight on/off control apparatus for a liquid crystal display television 7 which prevents electric power from being consumed unnecessarily by turning the backlight 2 off when there is no video signal input and turning the backlight on in response to the output signal of a video signal synchronizing pulse detecting circuit i.e. when there is a video signal input.
