PURPOSE:To obtain a recording medium having an electrically conductive thin film by providing a monomolecular film or monomolecular build-up film of specified amphiphilic compd. CONSTITUTION:The recording medium is used for such a recording and reproducing system that uses changes in a tunnel current through the recording medium having an electric memory effect and a probe electrode. On a substrate having an electrode, there is provided a thin film of monomolecular film or monomolecular build-up film of amphiphilic compd. which has a salt comprising electron- receptive compd. and complex cyclic compd. in the hydrophilic part and has a condensed polycyclic hydrocarbon with at least 4 and more preferably more than 6 conjugated double bonds in the hydrophobic part. Thereby, the obtd. medium has an electrically conductive thin film.
