In one embodiment, the display screen comprises a transmissive display and in anoth er embodiment, the display screen comprises an emissive display. The electronic device includes a component for monitoring for a user input or an action whi ch is then used to define a focus point or an area of interest on the display screen. The display image or a portion of the display image outside of the focus point o r the area of interest is dimmed or displayed on the display screen at a lower brightness level than in the area of interest.
