An apparatus and a method for controlling the safety of an engine forklift truck are provided to control the travel and work functions of the forklift truck by detecting the state of the forklift truck and the seated state of the operator when the operator leaves a seat. An apparatus for controlling the safety of an engine forklift truck includes a start switch(25), a seat switch(20), a parking brake switch, a control section(4), a cutoff solenoid valve(22), and an alarm buzzer(23). The start switch detects a travel state of the forklift truck. The seat switch is installed in an operator seat of the forklift truck to detect the seated state of the operator. The parking brake switch detects the parking brake state of the forklift truck. A signal of the start switch, a state value of the seat switch, a signal of the parking brake switch, and a signal of a travel selection lever are input to the control section. The cutoff solenoid valve is operated by the control section to interrupt the working oil introduced from a hydraulic pump into a main control valve and convert the working oil to a working oil tank. The alarm buzzer generates an warning alarm according to an output signal of the control section. |
