Household installations have a built in transponder (4,5,6) that is used to set operating conditions for a range of equipment. Communication with the transponder is made using a read write module via a non contact communication link. Transponder has additional interface (7) for access to transponder memory (6) by microcontroller (8) of house installation unit. The microcontroller controls the reading or writing of data into memory (6).
