<p>A recorder comprises an ink cartridge for enabling the recorder to read, write, and rewrite information stored in storage means of the ink cartridge and for notifying the user of information on the recorder by means of the information stored in the storage means when the recorder fails and control means for reading, writing, and rewriting information stored in the storage means.
