The invention relates to a method and a device for low-emission storage of biologically-degradable materials by means of ventilation without establishment of aerobic conditions in the material. The storage permits a more constant charging of the subsequent method steps. Methane formation is suppressed by means of the ventilation and the potential risk of formation of an explosive gas mixture in the storage container (2), or in the plant components transporting emissions, reduced. The control of the ventilation matches the ventilation rate to the biological activity in the stored material and minimises the air input to minimise the loss of methane build-up by aerobic material conversion and also the energy requirement for ventilation. The method is characterized in that by control of the ventilation of the storage container (2) a significant methane gas build-up is prevented.
