PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for detecting drift of molten steel in a continuous casting for steel and its instrument. SOLUTION: The method for detecting fluidity in the continuous casting of the steel and this instrument are as followings, that is, in a method for continuously casting a cast slab by pouring the molten steel into a casting space constituted of one pair of long sides and one pair of short sides through a pouring nozzle and cooling with a mold, the drift, in which the flow formed at the lower part of the casting space with this pouring nozzle is leaned to the center line of the long side surfaces, is detected by simultaneously measuring the change of magnetic flux in the short side positions at the right and the left to the center line with the instruments composed of a primary coil for generating AC magnetic field set below the mold and a secondary coil for detecting the change of the magnetic flux with the fluidity of the molten steel.
