PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a treatment process of fused waste material slag by which heavy metals existing in the surface of the slag can be converted into hardly soluble substances or enclosed within the slag, in a short time without installing any large storage vessel for exposing fused waste material slag to air. SOLUTION: This treatment process comprises fusing a waste material, thereafter, cooling the fused waste material to form solidified slag, and subjecting the solidified slag to heat treatment at >=400 deg.C, to make heavy metals existing in the surface of the slag react with slag components so as to convert the heavy metals into hardly soluble substances, or to enclose the heavy metals existing in the surface of the slag within the slag so as to be covered thereby. Thus, the heavy metals are prevented from being eluted from the slag.
