<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To always provide a stable, high-precision and high-image-quality image forming apparatus where the permanent deformation of a charging roller is prevented by bringing the charging roller into press-contact with a photoreceptor drum only when an image is formed and releasing the press-contact when the image is not formed, and an image defect caused by rubbing charging memory in a contact part between an electrostatic latent image carrier and a charging means is eliminated by making the charging roller and the electrostatic latent image carrier abut on each other while rotating them together when bringing the charging roller into press-contact with the photoreceptor drum when the image is formed. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is equipped with the electrostatic latent image carrier 1 on the surface of which an electrostatic latent image is formed, the charging means 2 for charging the carrier 1 to specified potential, and an abutting/separation driving mechanism for making the charging means 2 abut on/separate from the carrier 1, In the apparatus, the charging means 2 is at a position where it is separated from the carrier 1 when not charging, and the carrier 1 is processed to be charged after the carrier 1 and the electrifying means 2 abut on each other while they are driven to be rotated together when charging. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
