<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method and apparatus for an optical head unit, in which the luminance center position emitted from a semiconductor laser is easily aligned with a target position with high precision. <P>SOLUTION: When the optical axis position of the semiconductor laser relative to a collimator lens is adjusted in a manufacturing stage for the optical head unit, a luminance distribution measuring imaging device 70 picks up an image while an aperture 57 is disposed behind the collimator lens to find the luminance center position based upon a luminance distribution of part of collimated luminance flux which includes the center.
