<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication system capable of reducing operation time and effort for a user in image switching between a material image and a picked-up image. <P>SOLUTION: A PC 125 outputs an image data of a material image (material image data) in which a region of a predetermined pattern is established. An insert region detection portion 205 detects the region of the predetermined pattern from the material image data, as a picked-up image insert region. Based on the detected result, a screen in screen exchange portion 206, a shrink portion 207, and a synthesis portion 208 synthesize the material image data and a picked-up image data to generate a transmission image data, under the control of a control portion 201. Establishing the region of the predetermined pattern in the material image allows to perform switching between the picked-up image and the material image or inserting of one image into another image etc. automatically.
