Insecticidal sulfoximines of formula (Ia) are produced efficiently and in high yield by the oxidation of the corresponding sulfilimine of formula (I) with ruthenium tetroxide or an alkali metal permanganate. In formula (Ia) and formula (I), Het, R, R, R, L and n are as defined in the claims.
