A broadcast receiving device comprises: a signal applying unit configured to apply a power signal for detection to an input terminal; and a detection unit configured to detect an impedance change of the input terminal. The detection unit detects the impedance change of the input terminal by detecting a change of a signal level in accordance with a resistance value change of a variable resistor. According to the broadcast receiving device and a method for detecting whether an antenna or a cable line of the broadcast receiving device is connected, it is checked whether an antenna or a cable line is connected to the input terminal of the broadcast receiving device and channel scanning is performed, thereby preventing time of a user from being wasted.
