Disclosed is an artificial muscle which can be miniaturized and performs a precision motion, and of which selective contraction and relaxation of muscles can be achieved in accordance with requiring muscular output. To this end, the artificial muscle comprises: a first operation part including an electroactive polymer undergoing a relaxation variation based on applied electric power; a heating part generating thermal energy based on the applied electric power; a second operation part having a yarn structure undergoing a contraction variation based on the thermal energy generated from the heating part; and a controlling part applying electric power to the first operation part and the heating part.
