<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a database system in which a database or a part thereof is partitioned into ownership groups. <P>SOLUTION: Each ownership group is assigned to one or more database servers as an owner of ownership groups. The database server assigned as the owner of the ownership group is treated as an owner of all data items belonging to the ownership group.
