<p>1411093 Centrifugal separators WALMSLEYS (BURY) LTD 18 Dec 1972 [28 Jan 1972] 4082/72 Heading B2P A separator for removing heavy and light impurities from waste stock, e.g. for use in paper or board making machines comprises a horizontal stock centrifuging chamber 11, a tangential stock inlet 16, means 27 for rotating the stock about an axis extending substantially between two facing end walls 13, 14 of the chamber, cleaned stock outlet means 15 in one (14) of the end walls, and a light impurities outlet duct 19 supported by the other end wall (13) concentric with the axis of rotation of the stock and projecting into the chamber so that its inner end is axially spaced from its supporting wall. The means 27 consist of an impeller having axial and radial blades 27b, 27c. The cleaned stock is removed through perforations 15 in the end wall 14 and pass into a chamber 29 and thence to an outlet 33. The heavy impurities are centrifuged outwardly towards the chamber wall 12 and are removed through a tangential trap 17. The outlet duct 19 may be stationary and its position may be adjusted by piston and cylinder arrangements 25, 26; alternatively the duct 19 may be reciprocated by the latter arrangements to top off the light impurities.These light impurities are displaced inwardly towards a central air core into which, in a modification Fig 3 (not shown) additional air may be released adjacent the centre of the impeller 27 to assist removal of impurities towards the duct 19. Additional air may be released into the air core by allowing the stock to entrain air or by aerating it before supplying it to the chamber 11. The apparatus may be used to remove ink from stock by preliminary breaking down of the ink with detergent.</p> |
