1389101 Ammonium bisulphate BOHNA ENG & RESEARCH Inc 17 March 1972 [17 March 1971] 12699/72 Heading C1A Ammonium sulphate is converted to the bisulphate by forming an anhydrous molten solution of the sulphate in recycled bisulphate, intimately mixing the solution with a hot gas stream to heat to a temperature of at least 600‹ F. to convert the sulphate to the bisulphate, separating the molten ammonium bisulphate from the gaseous products and recycling a portion of the bisulphate to form the anhydrous solution. The anhydrous molten solution may be formed by mixing an aqueous solution of the sulphate with recycled bisulphate and then evaporating off the water. The water may be evaporated off by introducing hot combustion gases directly into the aqueous solution, the gases optionally being produced by the submerged combustion of a fuel in the solution. Water or water vapour may be mixed with the anhydrous solution to inhibit the formation of ammonium pyrosulphate during the conversion process.
|
