Contact sensor device for measuring and regulating the distance between a sensor body (1) and object (3) consists of moveable probe element (4, 5, 6) fitted to the body (1) which is brought into contact with the object (3). A permanent magnet (10) attached to the probe element and a differential Hall generator (11, 12) fitted to the body (1) interreact to provide a signal which is fed to a regulator having a position drive. USE/ADVANTAGE - Maintaining a fixed distance between a tool such as a lasercutter and a workpiece. The position is regulated until the magnet is midway between the Hall generators and no direct voltage signal is sent to the position regulator. The sensing device is less complicated and less costly than the prior art HF circuit device.
