The night light has a housing (10) of an opaque material containing a light bulb (20) at the rear of an opaque cover disc (23). This incorpoates transparent zones (25..27) in the form of characters or images through which the light can shine when the bulb (20) is supplied from the mains via a pair of plug pins (15,17) at the rear of the housing (10) fitting into a plug socket. Pref. the cover disc (23) is made of a transparent material which is covered with an opaque foil having cut-out areas providing the transparent zones (25..27). ADVANTAGE - Provides low lighting level.
