The invention relates to a plug socket with overvoltage protection which is built onto or into the plug-socket base (28), e.g. in the form of an additional module fixed onto the plug-socket base, an indication being given of a defect in the overvoltage protection. In order reliably to indicate a malfunction of the overvoltage protection, without requiring the direct attention of the corresponding service or monitoring person, the invention proposes to provide an acoustical indication as the indication and for the means for this acoustical indication to be located in the plug socket or, respectively, on or in the plug-socket base. <IMAGE>
