Known shearer loaders have a machine body which consists of individual components and in which the supporting-arm pivot shaft and the winch motors and if need be also the drive motors of the cutting drums are arranged to lie side by side. These, together with the shearer-loader connecting space in which the control elements of the machine and the connections for the power supply are accommodated, determine the overall length of the machine body, the aim of the invention being to reduce this overall length. It is proposed to equip the shearer loader (1) with a hollow shaft (8) which is mounted concentrically to the supporting-arm pivot axis (5) in the bore (9) of a rotatably mounted bush (6) holding the supporting arm (3). The goaf-side end of the hollow shaft (8) lies with the output pinion (17) of the drive motor (18) of the cutting drum (4) in a common longitudinal plane of the shearer loader (1) and carries an external gear rim (19) which lies in this plane and makes the geared connection to the drive motor (18) of the cutting drum (4). At its end on the supporting-arm side, however, the hollow shaft (8) reaches with an output shaft butt (14) concentric to the supporting-arm pivot axis (5) into the housing space of the supporting arm (3) and is coupled to the supporting-arm transmission.
