PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a rapidly soluble coating agent composition, rapidly soluble at normal temperatures in spite of a solid plasticizer contained therein, hardly separating a pigment and capable of forming a film by coating thereof on a tablet such as a medicine. SOLUTION: This rapidly soluble coating agent composition is obtained by adding and mixing a plasticizer which is a solid at normal temperatures and a pigment with a coating base and then heating the resultant mixture at the solidifying point of the plasticizer or above. The coating base is a granular hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose or methyl cellulose having 200-1000μm average grain diameter and the content of the grains having <=75μm grain diameter is <=30wt.%. The plasticizer is at least one selected from polyethylene glycol having 950-25000 weight-average molecular weight and blended in an amount of 5-30wt.% based on the coating base. Titanium oxide or iron oxide or both are used as the pigment and blended in an amount of 1-30wt.% based on the coating base. An aqueous coating agent can rapidly be prepared without requiring a special dissolving apparatus and a constant color tone can always be reproduced.
