Forming flip-top packs around cigarette groups

The method is intended for packing successive foil-wrapped groups (32) of cigarettes with two narrow and two wide sides in flip-top packs, each having an outer portion with a large panel and two side flaps (10,12) and an inner portion (38) around the two narrow and one wide side of each group. The side flaps of the blanks for the outer portion are folded upwards into nearly vertical position, in the pockets of the conveyor (15) and cigarette groups placed in each (at D,E). The flaps are then temporarily released whilst a folded inner pack portion is inserted (at G) between these flaps over each group after which each pack is completed in successive stations (H-Q). The machine disclosed operates at 400 packs/min or more.
