The skate wheel comprises a hub and a tread and/or shock absorbing layer (24), located between flanges (18, 20) of the U-section hub and extending beyond their outer edges. The tread/shock absorbing layer is molded onto the hub and into its flange apertures and irregularities. It is made from a material with a hardness of 50-85 Shore A, and can be in two layers: an outer layer of rubber and an inner layer of a polymer. The wheel hub can be made, e.g. from aluminum, a polymer or a titanium- or magnesium-based alloy.
