A shadow mask has a rectangular mask body facing the fluorescent screen of a panel and a rectangular mask frame (12) mounted to the periphery portion of the mask body and is supported by three mask holders so as to be displaceable with respect to the panel. Each mask holder has a fixing portion fixed to the mask frame, an engaging portion engaging with a side wall of the panel and an inclined portion connecting the fixing portion with the engaging portion with a gap therebetween. A sectional area on the fixing portion side of each mask holder inclined portion is smaller than that on the engaging portion side, and the displacement responsiveness of the inclined portion in proportion to the thermal expansion of the mask frame is higher on the fixing portion side than on the engaging portion side.
