A hydrostatic drive system has an adjustable pump in the delivery stream and at least one load connected to the pump. To each load is assigned an operating device setting in advance the movement direction and the movement speed plus a control valve device for controlling the movement direction and movement speed. The delivery stream of the pump can be matched to the flow of pressure medium demanded by the controlled loads. To each load (5) is assigned a delivery stream sensor (61) detecting a flow of pressure medium from the load to a reservoir (3) and/or a delivery stream sensor (60) detecting a flow of pressure medium from a supply pipe (4) of the pump (1) to the load. The second sensor communicates with an electronic control device (72) which itself communicates with the operating device (70), the control valve device (6) and a delivery stream adjusting device (2) of the pump. The electronic control device controls the control valve device and/or the delivery stream adjusting device of the pump according to the movement direction specified at the operating device and movement speed plus the flow of pressure medium from the load detected at the flow sensor or to the load detected by the other flow sensor.
