The method involves producing two light signals (L1, L2) which traverse a light path with a Faraday sensor arrangement (3) arranged in the alternating magnetic field (H), in opposite directions. The Faraday sensor arrangement exhibits a temperature-dependent Faraday effect, and a temperature-dependent phase displacement between both light signals on the light path is produced, independent of the magnetic field. The light signals are brought to an optic interference after traversing the light path, and an intensity signal (S) is formed as a measure for the intensity of the produced interference light (LI). The intensity signal is divided into an AC signal part (A) and a DC signal part (D), in such way, that the AC signal part contains all frequency portions of the magnetic field. An, at least largely, temperature-independent measurement signal (M) for the magnetic field is derived from the AC signal part and the DC signal part of the intensity signal.
