Block brake unit for a rail vehicle

The brake unit (1) has a housing (3) fixed to the bogie, suspension brackets (9) which can be moved transversely in relation to the direction of brake actuation and a brake block holder (2) suspended at the lower end of the brackets. The housing and the other bracket ends are connected together by at least one leaf spring element (5) which has different moments of resistance in its two directions of resilience in the plane perpendicular to its length. The springs are arranged such that they are parallel to or up to 30 deg to the direction of the braking force (FB).
