The headlight unit has a lens holder (2) with a mask section (4) which is an integral part of the holder, where the holder with the section is a single-piece deep-drawing plate component. The lens holder is directly connected with a reflector. The holder has a conical retainer ring, and fastening holes to fasten the headlight unit in a poly-ellipsoid headlight. The section in an area of its top edge is tapered to its other thickness. An independent claim is also included for a method for assembly of a headlight unit for a poly-ellipsoid motor vehicle headlight.
