Embodiments of the present invention provide a method for detecting the type of a data flow. The method comprises: acquiring the header of a first data packet of a current data flow, and acquiring a mode vector of the current data flow from the header; comparing at least one characteristic dimension in the mode vector of the current data flow with a corresponding characteristic dimension in a mode vector of at least one historical data flow, to obtain at least one mode similarity of the current data flow; predicting the length of the current data flow according to the at least one mode similarity of the current data flow and the corresponding length of the at least one historical data flow; and comparing the predicted length of the current data flow with a preset threshold, and determining, according to the comparison result, whether the current data flow is a large data flow or a small data flow. According to the present invention, the type of a data flow can be detected by detecting the header of a first data packet of the data flow, and thus the type of the network data flow can be determined in real time and the determination accuracy can be improved. |
