A remote monitoring system and a controlling method thereof are provided to apply a monitoring period differentially according to a response state during RF(Radio Frequency) communication having a lot of power consumption, thereby minimizing the power consumption. Home appliances(200,300) have communication modules for perceiving operation states according to a user's request to control corresponding operation according to monitoring information transmitting/receiving commands. A monitoring module(100) receives and displays monitoring information received from the home appliances at preset periods according to the user's request, is capable of controlling the user's desired request command in detail by sending the command to the home appliances, and selectively controls power supply according to monitoring degrees received from the home appliances in accordance with a random monitoring command. |
