PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading device that suppresses an increase in size of the device despite installation of a heat dissipation structure to dissipate heat generated from a light-emitting diode, and a member for detecting an initial position of document reading; and an image forming apparatus including the image reading device.SOLUTION: An image reading device 6 includes: a light-emitting diode 54 that is disposed at an end in the main scanning direction X of an illumination unit 51; a heat dissipation member 55 that dissipates heat generated from the light-emitting diode 54; and a detection plate 83 that is provided movably between a light projection unit 81 and a light-receiving unit 82 and shield light emitted from the light projection unit 81, so as to detect an initial position of a first carriage 50. The detection plate 83 is formed of a flat plate that is provided integrally with the heat dissipation member 55 and extends in a sub-scanning direction Y. |
