450,998. Glueing veneers edge-to-edge. FRIZ, A., 94, Haldenstrasse, Cannstatt, Germany. May 27, 1935, No. 15364. [Class 145 (ii)] In a machine for glueing veneers edge-toedge, the veneers 13, Fig. 3, are conveyed through the machine by a conveyer chain 3 running in a recess 2 in the work-table 1 and passing over drums 4, 5, Fig. 1, one of which is driven by a chain 8 from a motor 6. At the front end of the machine, glue is applied to the edges of the veneers by a disc b dipping into a container a and driven from the drum 5; drawing-in rollers d support the veneers, the pressure rollers c converging so as to press the veneers against the glueing disc. The gap 14 between the veneers is maintained by parallel rollers f during the drying of the glue by a body g heated electrically or by steam, and having a passage 16 through which hot air is blown by a fan driven by the motor 6. A setting or hardening medium such as formalin is then applied by a disc o and the veneers pressed into edge-to-edge contact during their passage under a second heater g<1> by converging pairs of rollers s. Alternatively, the setting medium may be applied by the disc band the glue by the disc o. Further, in cases where the setting medium is mixed with the glue or can be dispensed with altogether, one of the applying discs is inoperative. |
