A bottleneck portion (14) is formed in an optical fibre (6) which consists of a core (2) and a clad (4), and one or two belt, like conductive layers (20) are provided on the surface of the bottleneck portion (14), the conductive layers being elongated in the lengthwise direction of the fibre. This constitution removes polarised light components that have a polarised light plane perpendicular to the conductive layers (20), and the optical fibre works as a polariser. The optical fibre polariser is used in an optical transmission path in an optical communication system and as an element for constituting an optical isolator.
