SYMBOL-DECODING METHOD AND DEVICE THEREOF

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device that decode a symbol subject to run level coding by using one scan pattern selected from among diversified scan patterns. SOLUTION: Received symbol data subject to run level coding are separated into symbol separate run data and level data. An address output section 22 uses scan pattern data related to the symbol data to select a specific scan pattern and uses the separated run data for selecting a scan address to which level data at the scan address according to the selected scan pattern. A data storage section 23 stores the level data fed from the symbol separating, section to the storage address designated by the selected scan address and applies run level decoding the symbol subject to run level coding, based on the scan pattern used for run level coding and stores the symbol in a form suitable for the use by devices at post-stages.
