Improvements in the production of nonwoven webs using electrostatically charge conveyor belt

A web of continuous filaments is produced and deposited on a moving porous conveyor in the form of a continuous web. The filaments carry an electrostatic charge of a first polarity, usually negative, which is either acquired or externally applied. The porous conveyor belt is made from a dielectric material. A charge of an opposite polarity is applied to the conveyor belt in an area just upstream of the deposit of the filaments. The filaments are thus attracted to and adhere to the belt. The charge to the conveyor belt is preferably applied by an insulated bar spaced from the belt and having a series of high voltage electrodes.
