PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible make the supporting precision of a lens extremely high in accordance with higher density of a recording medium and to improve the sliding property in accordance with higher access speed. SOLUTION: This optical pickup device is provided with an optical head body 1 and a lens holder 6 which is freely-rotatably supported by the optical head body 1. A supporting shaft 2 which supports at least one of the optical head body 1 and the lens holder 6 is formed of porous ceramic which is mde by being impregnated with lubricant. Thereby, the supporting precision of an objective lens is improved, which makes it possible to condense an optical beam on a highly densified recording track and assures a smooth movement of the lens holder for a long period. As a result, the optical pickup device which is excellent in durability and reliability can be obtained.
