<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering lock device capable of performing a favorable control to suit the position of a lock bar. <P>SOLUTION: One of the requisite conditions for enabling a steering lock ECU 40 to acknowledge that the situation is in the unlocked condition will be met when all of the following three factors are met even in case resetting is generated in the unlocked condition. The three factors signify that a lock switch 41 is turned Off, an unlock switch 42 is turned On, and that the position data to show the unlocked condition is stored in a RAM 40a. Therefore, a control based upon the unlocked condition, for example the vehicle engine start control, can be conducted immediately when all factors are met even in case resetting is generated in the unlocked condition.
