<p>A mobile communication system for controlling a guard channel and its channel control method are provided to stably provide a voice service by preferentially connecting a handoff call by controlling channels being used according to service classes even in case of having insufficient available channels. When a request for a call connection is received(S200), a current channel usage state is monitored to check whether an available channel exists(S205). If an available channel exists, it is checked whether the requested call connection is a voice call(S210). When the requested call connection is a voice call, it is checked whether a required amount of the voice call is greater than a pre-set first reference value(S215). If the required amount of the voice call is greater than the first reference value, guard channels are increased(S220) and the requested voice call is connected(S225). If an available channel does not exist or if an available channel is smaller than the required amount of the requested call connection, it is checked whether the requested call connection is a handoff call(S240). When the requested call connection is a handoff call, a service class of each channel being used is determined and it is checked whether non-real time data exists(S245). If there exists a channel for processing a non-real time burst data packet, a transmission rate of the corresponding channel is temporarily reduced(S250). The obtained available channel is allocated to the requested handoff call.</p> |
