PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a sense of incongruity from being given to an observer caused by the presence of a non-display area around a display area to form so-called frame area. SOLUTION: A front cabinet 2 is arranged which has an optical member 200 formed along peripheral edges of a panel module 1 and a back cabinet 3 fixed to the panel module 1. Areas overlapping a non-display area 11b on the front side and the rear side of the panel module 1 when viewed from the side of a display surface 1a are covered from the side face side of the panel module 1 by the optical member 200, and light on the back of the areas overlapping the non-display area 11b is led from the rear side to the front side of the panel module 1 to display a background image in a part of the front side so that the observer on the side of the display surface 1a can view it. Thus, it looks as if the front cabinet 2 didn't exist, so that a state equivalent to the absence of the frame area is achieved. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
