PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent slip of a charging roller in an image forming device in which the charging roller is driven following a photoreceptor. SOLUTION: This method includes a discharging process to generate corona discharge between the charging roller 61 and discharge electrodes 94 of a corona discharger 92 arranged to face the charging roller 61 with a predetermined space and to apply corona discharge to the surface of the charging roller 61, and to set the predetermined space so that the contact angle of water on the surface of the charging roller 61 subjected to the corona discharge treatment for a predetermined time is equal to or less than a contact angle of water on the surface of the photoreceptor 11.
