<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrolytic cell for producing high purity hydrogen from a water soluble organic compound and water by electrochemical reaction. <P>SOLUTION: The electrolytic cell 10 has an anode section 5 to which an aqueous solution of a water soluble organic compound is supplied, an anode 6 arranged in the anode section and having electrode catalyst, an electrolyte film 7 arranged adjacent to the anode 6 and having proton conductivity, a cathode 8 arranged adjacent to the electrolyte film 7 and having an electrode catalyst, a hydrogen selectively permeable part 18 comprising a hydrogen separation film such as a palladium film arranged adjacent to the cathode to selectively permeate hydrogen produced on the cathode 8 and a cathode section 9 in which the cathode 8 and the hydrogen selectively permeable part 18 are arranged and to which hydrogen permeated through the hydrogen selectively permeable part 18 is supplied. High purity hydrogen is recovered as a cathode outlet gas 24 from a hydrogen recovery apparatus 12 adjacent to the cathode section 9. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
