<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymer electrolyte fuel cell reduced in size and improved in high current density. <P>SOLUTION: The fuel cell comprises: a solid polymer electrolyte membrane; a fuel electrode placed on one surface of the solid polymer electrolyte membrane and an air electrode placed on the other surface. It includes: a conductive gas diffusion layer in each of the fuel cell and air electrodes for gas diffusion; and an porous electrode catalyst layer formed by touching these electrodes to the surface of the diffusion layer. The maximum diffusion coefficient direction maximizes the oxygen diffusion coefficient in both directions of the gas diffusion layer, and is almost identical to the direction of gas flow in the layer. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
