<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a voice output device in which the volume can be regulated automatically, depending on the individual. <P>SOLUTION: A user can input information by operating an remote controller 20 about the relation of the distance between a television receiver 1 and a viewer, and the volume output level designated by a control section 10 to a voice-receiving section 5, and the information indicating this relation is stored in a memory 8. When an automatic volume regulation function is turned on, a range sensor 7 measures the distance between the television receiver 1 and the viewer and transmits that distance to the control section 10. With reference to the information about the relation of the distance between the television receiver 1 and the viewer stored in the memory 8 and the volume output level designated by a control section 10 to the voice-receiving section 5, the control section 10 designates the volume output level, corresponding to that distance to the voice-receiving section 5.
